A Reason to … Celebrate, Remember, Have Fun! (March 9 – 15)

Friday, March 9. Today’s another name day celebration. It’s MIDDLE NAME PRIDE DAY! Celebrating Names (http://www.namesuniverse.com) challenges us to share our middle name with three people that don’t know your middle name.

I’ll share mine (although for many years I didn’t let anyone know!). It’s Faith. After two stillborn children, the doctor told my mom that she wouldn’t have any normal children. Hence, my middle name of Faith. (well …. There’s still some, including my mom on some days, which will debate the ‘normal’ part now)

What’s your middle name?  Are there any special stories about how you got YOUR middle name?

Saturday, March 10: Today is …. THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF AWESOME! Don’t believe me? Check it out at http://dayofawesomeness.com/. (And as you know, everything you find on the internet is true!) As the web site says, “The International Day of Awesomeness is a celebration of awesomeness. People are awesome every day, frequently don’t realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized. We aim to fix that, with a special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness!” Sounds like a perfect day to celebrate. YOU’RE awesome, I’m awesome, We’re ALL awesome!! How can you celebrate awesomeness today?

Sunday, March 11: Apple fritters, apple cobbler, apple butter, apple jelly … So many apple delights to celebrate JOHNNY APPLESEED DAY with!

Johnny Chapman followed his own path; spreading apple seeds along the way. He was born Sept 26, 1774, inMassachusetts. Trained as a nurseryman, he tended 1,200 acres of his own orchards. He collected apple seeds from cider presses inPennsylvaniaand passed out and planted apple seeds along his journeys to theOhio Rivervalley, becoming known as ‘Johnny Appleseed’. Britannica Concise Encyclopedia says “His kind and generous nature, devout spirituality, affinity for the Indians and the wilderness, and eccentric appearance (including bare feet, a coffee-sack shirt, and a mush pan for a hat) helped make him a figure of legend.”

Celebrate Johnny Appleseed today with your favorite apple dish. Here are ten printable game & coloring sheets for the children to enjoy celebrating with.

Monday, March 12: Now, today is MY kind of day! It’s NATIONAL NAPPING DAY! Unfortunately, my boss may not be quite as crazy about me celebrating this day. Maybe a quick forty winks after I get home from work? After all, I can’t pass up celebrating this quirky day.

Tuesday, March 13: Do you ever feel like being a mite more daring? Today’s a day that can add a little ‘wild’ in your life. It’s NATIONAL OPEN AN UMBRELLA INDOORS DAY. Can’t you feel the edge of danger in this celebration? Next thing you know, we’ll be walking under ladders and following black cats.

Wednesday, March 14th: Today’s an easy day to celebrate. It’s INTERNATIONAL ASK A QUESTION DAY. What question can you ask today, that you typically wouldn’t ask? What question will enhance your relationships? What question will expand your world? What question can you ask today that will teach you something new about your children? Who, what, when, where, why …. So many questions, so little time.

Thursday, March 15th: You are special. The world is better because you’re in it. You’re AWESOME! It’s ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE KID DAY today, sponsored byCamp FireUSA. They challenge parents and adults to write a note or letter to let kids know just how amazing and valuable they are.  It only takes a few moments, yet the words will be remembered and appreciated for a long time.

Need some ideas to get started? Here’s some letter writing tips to get you going. http://campfireusa.org/aikd_tips.aspx

(And by the way, Chris & Justin Nance, you may be all grown up now … but you’re still an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE KID!!!)
