A GOLDEN GIRLS kind of day

Friday, September 14th: Today is a GOLDEN GIRLS kind of day. The Golden Girls premièred September 14, 1985. The new sitcom starring Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty brought laughs to America for almost seven years before their final episode May 9, 1992.

The series, featuring these four feisty, spunky women, won several awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series twice. It also won three Golden Globe Awards. All four women each received an Emmy Award throughout the series and had multiple nominations.

I discovered an interesting tidbit about The Golden Girls. Originally, Betty White was cast as Blanche and Rue McClanahan was cast as Rose. These roles were similar to previous roles each lady played. Not wishing to be typecast, they switched roles at the last minute. An unusual twist, but they’ve both become known for their roles and personalities of Blanche and Rose.

Tonight, celebrate with a little Golden Girls spice to your evening.
