A Reason to … Celebrate, Remember, Have Fun! (Nov 18-24, 2011)

Friday, November 18th: Shhhh! Don’t tell my mother and sister (both Scorpios) that I’m promoting this celebration. MARRIED TO A SCORPIO SUPPORT DAY is a holiday for those married to this mysterious zodiac sign. For every one who’s had to dodge the zinging stinger of a Scorpio, or who was dazzled by this signs magnetism, this day’s for you!

Saturday, November 19th: I don’t know if I’d even know what to do with bagpipes. And I KNOW my neighbors wouldn’t appreciate my attempts! To honor NATIONAL BLOW BAGPIPES DAY, I think I’ll pop in a CD of my favorite Celtic band and listen to some awesome bagpipes instead. Celebrate life, celebrate the tantalizing sounds of a bagpipe. (For a treat to celebrate the day with, check out my favorite band, The Killdares, on YouTube)

Sunday, November 20th: It’s a Family Thing! Today marks the beginning of NATIONAL FAMILY WEEK. This is a busy week, as families nationwide prepare for Thanksgiving celebrations. Even though family is usually together this day, don’t let the hubbub and frantic activity of this week end up relegating the immediate family to the backseat. Take some time out to stop and celebrate your family. The Alliance for Children and Families has promoted this annual celebration for over forty years. This year, their activities focus on paying tribute to military families and the organizations that support and strengthen them. How can we celebrate this week by honoring a military family you know?

Monday, November 21st: Hello … hello. Hello, hello … hello! It’s the 39th annual WORLD HELLO DAY today. Greet ten people for peace’ is the message. The day originated in response to the conflict betweenEgypt and Israel in 1973. World Hello Day has been observed by people in 180 countries since then. It’s a great day for a hello!

Tuesday, November 22nd: This day’s been around awhile, since 1939 in fact. It’s START YOUR OWN COUNTRY DAY.  Although started in jest at the World’s Fair in New York,  it may gain popularity, as American’s become more frustrated with governmental inadequacies. Gather around the table tonight and do some planning. What’s your new countries name? Design a flag for it. What currency does your country use? Plan it all out. Then, I’ll head to work on my current countries roads and be thankful.

Wednesday, November 23rd: Plain, salted, sugared; a nut is not always a nut. It’s NATIONAL CASHEW DAY. Celebrate by eating some cashews today. Cashews have a lower fat content than other nuts and are also rich in magnesium. Cashews are not truly nuts but are “seeds that adhere to the bottom of the cashew apple, the fruit of the cashew tree.” This may not be a nutty kind of day after all. Nut or not, I like them and will go partake of a few.

Thursday, November 24th: Many will be celebrating Thanksgiving today. Fewer will be honoring a National Day of Mourning. Let’s shake it all up today and celebrate a different day – CELEBRATE YOUR UNIQUE TALENT DAY. We all have at least one extraordinary, unique talent. Embrace yours! Celebrate life, celebrate YOU!
